## Benefit and its precondition
Picking throughput typically rises 2–3× and inventory accuracy reaches 99.9%+. But the order profile has to suit it. For full-case, bulky items, or a huge SKU count with very uneven movement, goods-to-person is not always worth it — sometimes forklift plus handheld is cheaper.
## ROI tracks order lines
Across several projects: below ~800 order lines/day, AMR payback often exceeds 3 years and we advise against it; above 1,500 lines it's usually 18–24 months. Under that volume, fix process and slotting first — don't rush to hardware. That's the "delete before you automate" principle.
## Phase it
Deploy the WMS first to get the data foundation right (1–2 months), then bring in AMRs gradually. Launching the full stack at once means a long, concentrated shake-out period.
